Forty five years of our lives we have lived with the disease of trickledown syndrome. And we are about to experience a full blown pandemic economically and in employment or as consumers.
And the reason because the rich do not want to pay taxes. And we the middle class suffers for four and a half decades.
Even that dude Aristotle knew that a society needs a healthy comfortable middle class I cant remember exactly how he worded it yet that jumped out at me
Yet forty years later i do remember reading that in what Aristotle wrote stretched out atop a M-113 Army personnel carrier is definition waiting to rail head to Grafenwhoer in West Germany.
And we have these so called Christian loons in congress CHINO Christian in name only. Who we saw praying for votes on trumps tax bill a bill that decimates programs for those in need.
They cherry pick the Bible to justify their actions to attack those in marginalized communities or abortion. And it kind makes sense. In that their god they worship is narcissistic very vengeful.
A dyslexic bad punctuation rant because my Dunc the golden chunk is not much into discussing the current fuckery once again caused by repigs.
Only current events Dunc is into involves snacks walks belly rubs cuddles or rawhides or ripping the squeaker out of his new $3 lamb chop.
Fuck lamb chop prices gonna go up because of these tariffs.

(19,196 posts)Although proposed by Elizabeth Warren, there has never been a tax on wealth, and most argue such a tax is unconstitutional.

(7,748 posts)Anytime we bring up making the taxes progressive, they all threaten to take their toys and leave.
AND, WE KEEP ON BOWING TO THEM EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Let them go. Let them know that they will lose their citizenship if they want to choose their greed over this nation.
Fuck'em.

Good luck with that.

(7,748 posts)Sit it out?
Never.
I just know that using the same old corrupted laws and procedures are not going to save us.
Just as putting yet another rich person in office is not going to save us.
But, it seems we have to be burned pretty damned badly before we stop standing in the fire, eh?

(130 posts)when I read this? Because I know that is way too rosy a picture.
Very hard to fix what they broke, by the classic process. "Vote them out"-- uh huh, yeah. Sure we can try that, if they'll let us, but even when we elect Democrats, somehow we fail.
It's a pattern. They steal and suppress votes every time.
We have to do much more.

(7,576 posts)I'll fight for democracy for as long as there's a chance it will work.
If it won't? I'm prepared for that too. I've lived a good life & I won't sit by & do nothing while MAGAts destroy our country.
blubunyip
(130 posts)--it's a chance, sure we have to believe that --but when you're up against liars, cheats, thieves, criminals--how do you ever really "win." ?? Where's the even playing field? We are victims of sociopathic pirates who do not honor any set of rules. Sociopaths are not rational people. They are never satisfied until they hold all the cards and you lose, by any means necessary.
It's the Sane vs the Insane now. Voting the honest way doesn't work against cheaters. Bloodshed to settle differences doesn't usually work either.
Nonviolent resistance-- is all we've got. Anything, everywhere. In the streets and/or online or other means. Everyone can do something. Speak out, join others, be creative. Doing nothing is not an option--I agree on that. This is an emergency.

(7,748 posts)By making sure the punishment for their actions is enough to deter them from ever thinking about trying this shiat again.
Which will go against the ideals of this who feel that our society and country is not worth fighting for if it includes violence.
Well, it already does include that. To deny that is to deny reality. Now what?
Sit and hope that this will end by some magic decree, or understand that we have to fight (and that word means what you think it means)?
blubunyip
(130 posts)Haven't really done that yet.
Fighting violence with more violence is usually a loser in the long run. Unwinnable wars -- they are usually not thought through to the consequences.
Yes we've been attacked. Attack from within feels like the worst type of Betrayal. Yes it is violence against us. No question about that. But we have to resist the urge to kill.
Our system of direct punishment is not working very well these days. True. This is the biggest test of that.
OldBaldy1701E
(7,748 posts)Are you inferring that our desire to remove those traitors and leeches before they do too much damage is an 'unwinnable war'?
Interesting.
You mention a test. We will fail it. Until we stop being blind to our own shortcomings and realize that this rot goes way further than one orange idiot and his pansy cronies, way further than just one political party, we are done for.
Will we realize this in time?
That is the 'test' you speak of.

OldBaldy1701E
(7,748 posts)Now we are getting somewhere.
The issue is the disparity of wealth in this country. There are presently around 1100 people who are a millionaire or above. (Spoiler: they are not all rethugs!) That accounts for around five percent of the population; Yet, they control 57% of Congress.
But, we are not ruled by money. No way!

(2,099 posts)That Reagan created the service economy. One of the news sources yesterday I actually heard it mentioned. That while there is a trade deficit that the U.S has a extremely large services surplus. This is what the republicans had built on for the last 50 years. But no mention of Reagan and his service economy.

(7,174 posts)got their rates cut basically in half. Not just the very top but also on down to what would be considered upper middle class. The rates used to go from a top of 70% dropping by a few percent as you went down in taxable income all the way to a low of about 15%. Under Reagan the top rate down into the 30's and they flattened out the line with fewer brackets which had the effect of hitting more people in the bottom half of taxable income into broader taxable income brackets for the one or two percentage ranges there.
Under Clinton we were able to raise the top brackets back up slightly and it is one of the reasons he ended with a budget surplus.

(72,388 posts)in chicago, home owners bear the brunt of property taxes, despite a huge commercial sector.
cuz its easy to compare 1 bungalow to another, but its hard to compare 1 factory or shopping mall to another. and the rich buy lower assessments. the appeals board is probably the most corrupt part of county govt. there r actually alders w a side hustle in tax law.
case in point- tsfs chgo tower. he couldnt rent out his ground level retail, cuz by the time it was on the market, hed shit all over his brand. but he appealed, blaming it on his architects. they screwed up the sight lines. bullshit. it sits on a brand new river walk. but a corrupt alder, who is thankfully now a convicted felon, took his case and got a huge reduction.
in many places, taxes r used as an incentive to build big things. and when they dont pan out- see foxconn, us little people r left holding the bag.

Trump finally got us off the hook by replacing NAFTA with his own USMCA that he now says was Biden's stupid trade deal.

(19,196 posts)When Trump took office in 2017, economic policy shifted to a Trump-distorted protectionism, which is different than the neoliberal economics of Reagan, and that protectionism continues today on steroids.
Biden tried mightily to reinstitute the Keynesian economic policies of the New Deal, but his original BBB was sabotaged and diluted, with assistance from a few saboteurs from his own party.

(2,039 posts)This is it in a nutshell. THIS is the entire agenda of the modern GOP. Everything else is secondary to the fact they want to give tax bennies for themselves or their rich donors. That is all the GOP is for. Because so many of the masses are delusional and brainwashed to hand over their wallets to benefit these leeches at the top, they think the Republicans are "better" on the economy than Democrats. It is all because they think THEY will benefit from tax cuts.
This is at the core of the crackpot Chicago School, Milton Friedman, neoliberal economics, and "libertarianism."
I call it Reverse Robin Hood economics.
All of the handouts to the rich and businesses have been tried before, pre-Great Depression, and it all failed miserably, hence all the safeguards that have been put in place beginning with FDR.
It's like people never learn a damned thing.
