I shop there only because it's two blocks away and affordable for me. That aside, it was unusual to see empty shelves there. So there's that.

(6,839 posts)Small town Oregon. Didn't see any obvious shortages, but looking at the baskets at checkout, it was clear people were stocking up - flour, sugar, toilet paper, paper towels, juices. Nothing alarming yet, but I'll probably go back later this week for extra paper goods.
Picked up some veggie seeds.

(998 posts)Most of our food comes from the US or Mexico and there are no significant tariffs on Mexican imports at the moment. And toilet paper comes mostly from Georgia-Paciifc -- from US-grown trees. Those things will only be in short supply if people hoard, which they probably will.
The real items of concern are the products we get from China. Much of that is electronics, which Trump excluded for now. However, the stupidity of this exclusion is that China knows it can change tomorrow morning if Trump wakes up in a bad mood, and so do US companies that would import these things. So the fact is, ALL shipments from China are severely limited now because nobody wants to play Trump's game.
In other words, even though electronics are excluded, they will still probably be in short supply. Many of the TVs come from S Korea, so that may not be directly impacted. Basically the problem is chaos. With all the exclusions and the deferrals of tariffs to come later. we are getting nothing useful out of these tariff threats, but it is completely fouling up the supply chains, and will probably be worse than the COVID supply chain disruptions.
Not sure why people are stocking up on some things, like water and TP. We have a Georgia Pacific plant here in town, but it doesn't make TP. I'm guessing it's a memory from Covid - panic buying.

(351 posts)I hate it, but they have the best price on coffee. We buy the pods. It was a quick trip but I noticed that the store looked well stocked. Did not do the grocery aisles, other than for the coffee so I dont know what they looked like. It will be interesting to see what it looks like in a few weeks.

(1,477 posts)Didn't see any empty shelves, but have noticed the last few times that the refrigerated fruit and vegetable section has fewer items.

(16,316 posts)Dh only has a few razor blades left. We use sonicare toothbrushes and I didnt realize I was out of replacement heads. I use oxiclean and it looks like Im about out.
So its pretty much all necessary except for the package of TP, but honestly I still have Covid PTSD around TP.

(8,732 posts)I had to get on my knees and go all the way in the back for the last container in my local grocery store. It wasnt even a bag. It was a plastic container with only 3.5 pounds of sugar. The rest of the shelves of sugar were empty.

(8,906 posts)Today I was at Costco, very busy, but no empty shelves etc. I was there for my eye appointment but picked up a couple of things we needed. I was too exhausted to go anywhere else.
However I did notice that their frozen cauliflower crust pizza and the other ones were almost gone. I think that was because they're redoing the freezers they are normally in maybe. I was wondering if I should get two because it is easy to make and will keep.
