60 Minutes Confirms its Parent Company is Increasing Oversight Over its Reporting

Last week, Bill Owens, the respected former Executive Producer of 60 Minutes, resigned — citing the loss of his journalistic independence as the reason for his departure. At the time, the news was troubling. After all, 60 Minutes has long stood as a pillar of investigative journalism, a bulwark against political pressure and corporate influence. But now, in light of recent revelations, Owens’ resignation has become more than troubling; it’s downright terrifying.

In a closing statement that aired Sunday night, 60 Minutes publicly addressed Owens’ exit, making an admission that stunned many viewers:

"Our parent company, Paramount, is trying to complete a merger. The Trump administration must approve it. Paramount began to supervise our content in new ways."

Read that again. Let it sink in.

Definitely see potential problems. To date, I still find 60 Minutes worth watching. But that might change. Silent Type Monday #1
