(19,202 posts)And, since Trump is misinterpreting and misusing those powers, they could easily repeal the law he is claiming to use if they had the courage.

(33,776 posts)Congress may have given him the power, but that doesn't mean they intended for the President to create his own "emergency," in order to exploit that power. And, yes. The current Congress is gutless, and that's being very generous.

The strongest way to block Trumps abuse of the law is to repeal the law itself, completely rescinding any and all emergency authority granted to the executive by congress, reverting that authority wholly to congress, as the constitution dictates.
It will be interesting to see if, once the nation is plunged into recession, and shortages are commonplace, if congress will find the courage to repeal the law, or if the Republicans will mindlessly plod towards a bloodbath in the midterms.

Trade goes up and down all the timethis feels like normal stuff, not a crisis.

After next week, no further container ships from China are scheduled to arrive in US ports.
Stop and reflect on that reality.
