"SNIP...........
Reed Galen: Britt represents a long, unhealthy tradition of staffers running for their bosss old seat. They come not with beliefs but an ingrained sense of how to play the game. She was an aide and then chief of staff for retired Alabama Senator Richard Shelby.
This is not new in American (or human) history, but that doesnt make it better. It allows someone like Britt to achieve an incredible amount of power and prestige powered not by belief and conviction, but timing, fundraising, and connections. They now sit on the other side of the desk, and along with their staff and bevy of consultants, triangulate every issue, every vote, and every press release based on whats best for their career. She represents not the people of Alabama, but her own ambition.
..........SNIP"

Anybody actually believe Trump would or ever has worn one, even if it were solid gold?
I dont trust people that wear crosses or Flag lapel pins. All for show to cover their BS.

(10,595 posts)The SC making money 'speech' should be the first priority reversing the oligarchs stranglehold on political power. That would be a real start on making America truly great again. Biden's second term could make FDR proud.

(21,654 posts)Since when do Republicans do anything out of belief and conviction? I'm not saying no Repulican has ever done anything that was based on belief and conviction, but it's certainly not the norm these days. Look at those Republican galoots in Congress. Th only thing they seem to believe in is giving TSF whatever he wants. I'm sure Britt fits right in.

(9,188 posts)It split another arrow already in the bullseye.
This is precisely the heart of everything. And why she will occupy that Senate seat as long as she cares to do so, unless Trump has her removed for some perceived slight.

(522 posts)What's wrong with Katie Britt? Well, basically, she's pathetic. An all too frequent Republican malady.

(113,946 posts)She does hold a JD. I did a search on her and she sounds sharp when she's interviewing hdge fund people and discussing exactly why the law hasn't kept up with the exotic financial instruments, including cryptocurrency, and no one has plans to tackle any of it.
I don't know what she did to achieve that cross between a sappy "save the animals" and Serena Joy or got talked nto that stage set kitchen. Talk about completely tone deaf, that ad probably appealed to male patriarchs but every woman who saw it took away quite a different message. Did somebody load her before performance Dutch courage?
Having seen her on video, I think had she done a simple rebuttal it would have come out a lot better than that asinine script somebody wrote for her to whimper her way through in that fake kitchen.
She's not talking, probably a good thing since she could only make things worse if she did. She'll stay silent and out of the public eye until it all blows over.
As I said, she's not that stupid.

(15,909 posts)Just because Britt might be smart in some areas, we shouldnt assume (and Im not saying youre doing this - its just a commonly expressed concern) that shes playing 10-dimensional chess and has figured out how all the mocking and jeering over her SOTU response somehow deviously plays to her favor.
She seems to lack PR smarts, enough at least to know when shes getting good or bad advice. She may have terrible emotional intelligence when not dealing with people who arent very much like herself.
Smart or dumb, she clearly lacks integrity.

(113,946 posts)She's still not that stupid.

10-dimensional chess?
Forced into it against her will?

(6,773 posts)Aside from the unbelievable political naivete and stupidity of whoever decided she needed to be sitting in the kitchen, while women are one of the demographic groups that are most approving of the President, her entire delivery was abominable. She placed herself in the same category as Lauren Boebert, uneducated and stupid as far as common sense goes. Is that what happens to women who graduate from the University of Alabama law school? Her professors must be crying with embarrassment.

She also said the speech was designed for Tick Tock. It will be chopped up and posted there.

(11,767 posts)They are for the most part, hardworking, compassionate, smart, and motivated people who learn the ropes and make things happen. I am sure that there are staffers out there who go on to be good leaders because of who they are and taking the experiences they earn and applying them to actually wanting to help people. I have known many who do just that.
What is wrong with Britt isn't her experiences and path to where she is. What is wrong with Britt is her IDEOLOGY. She has the mentality that allowed her to accept the offer to give a speech she was not prepared for. She lied shamelessly. That happens because of WHO YOU ARE, not because of how you got to where you are.
Britt is just part of the Conservative movement. Their goal isn't to help the average American. The goal of the Conservative movement is to continue to privilege one small group of people and disadvantage everyone else. Because they can't be honest with the American people about their goals, they have to lie, just like Britt did in her SOTU rebuttal.
